Abstract: Nos dias de hoje, os gestores necessitam cada vez mais de informação sobre as várias actividades de negócio das suas organizações, para tomarem decisões estratégicas com base em toda a informação coerente das várias vertentes de negócio. O histórico da informação destas organizações é armazenado em repositórios de informação, sobre os quais os servidores de processamento analítico trabalham todas as combinações possíveis de análise, com base em “todas” as possíveis queries que os agentes de decisão costumam lançar. Com a evolução dos computadores de bolso, e a sua utilização em grande escala em termos de comunicações e acesso aos dados, os agentes de decisão têm a possibilidade de aceder à informação em qualquer altura e em qualquer lugar. Seria extremamente útil para estes agentes a utilização da sua informação analítica em dispositivos móveis. Este trabalho debruça-se, essencialmente, sobre o problema de processar, comprimir e migrar estruturas multidimensionais de dados para plataformas móveis de pequena dimensão, analisando os&#xD;
algoritmos Dwarf, Cubo Supresso, Cubo Prefixo e Quotient Cube.</description>

Abstract: In this paper we present results on the normalized temperature sensitivity of UV- and fs-induced fiber Bragg gratings in a singlemode fiber with ~4.7 mol% GeO2 and having an Ormocer coating. In the 1500-1600 nm wavelength range, the former shows an almost constant value of 6.165x10-6 K-1, whilst the fs-induced present some variation not related with the strength of the grating but probably due to induced birefringence. The average value obtained was 6.191x10-6 K-1 which is higher than the former. For the UV-induced gratings in the Corning SMF-28 fiber (3.67 mol% GeO2) the value obtained was 6.143x10-6 K-1. The achieved values are compatible with the use of Corning 7980 silica-based cladding fiber. Preliminary results also show no measurable impact of the hydrogenation process or the strength of the grating on the normalized temperature sensitivity.</description>

Abstract: Product design education often needs to update its pedagogical practice to include new&#xD;
strategies that facilitate the acquisition of scientific and technical skills valued by the job market.&#xD;
Polytechnic higher education, which is oriented towards practice and guided by the application&#xD;
and development of knowledge, is constantly challenged to create or optimize learning contexts&#xD;
that allow students to experience the demands of professional practice in a guided way. In&#xD;
order to verify the current state of academic practice in product design education, compared to&#xD;
professional practice, the authors aim to gather evidence that will help guide the optimization or&#xD;
implementation of new methodologies. In a first phase, a survey was conducted with product/&#xD;
equipment/industrial designers working in the Portuguese job market. The data obtained&#xD;
through this instrument is complemented with interviews and non-participant observations of&#xD;
their professional practices. In the last phase, the results of this research will be academically&#xD;
tested, converted into one or more academic design project. In this article, the first results&#xD;
of the research will be presented. These results point to the multiplicity of approaches. The&#xD;
conclusion justifies that a review of the teaching and learning process in product design and the&#xD;
experimentation with new pedagogical strategies.</description>

Abstract: Natural foods with increased nutritional content and additional biological and health benefits are appealing to modern customers. A growing interest in using natural substances to replace synthetic compounds in foods has sparked several thorough studies with plant-origin products. Maritime pine bark (Pinus pinaster subsp. atlantica) is an abundant waste from the timber industry and an important source of natural polyphenolic compounds. These compounds stand out due to their bioactive potential,&#xD;
especially antioxidant and antimicrobial activities, that can be used for preserving foods, increasing their shelf life, safety, nutritional value, as well as reducing food waste. The present work aims to evaluate the efficiency of pine bark extracts for reducing lipid oxidation in a ready-to-eat cured-smoked pork belly product.</description>
