The human being differs from the other living beings by the ability to smile. This characteristic helps him to face the problems that seem to him in the daily life, whether they are personal, professional, familiar or relational. So, humor, present from always, surfaces like a need for the individual growth, and for the interaction/communication process. Defined as a way of acting and appearing in great part of the interactions that the human being is establishing, humor makes people laugh and stay cheerful. In this way, being palliative care characterized by active care, suitable for persons with advanced and progressive disease, which threats life, where very often the suffering, the pain and the death are present in this phase of the life, we tried to know what is the perspective of the elements of a palliative care team about using humor. To give answer to this aim, we prepare this study supported especially in a qualitative paradigm, descriptive and exploratory type, with a quantitative aspect in order to supplement the data. The strategy for data collection focused on the semi-structured interview, a demographic questionnaire and the Multidimensional Sense of Humor Scale (MSHS). Data was analyzed by the light of the content analysis, and using statistical analysis techniques. The study took place in a palliative care unit, located in the North Portugal and contemplated several health professionals that belong to the team, such as doctor, nurses, health care assistant, and social worker. The results enable us to understand that professionals assign several meanings to humor, such as: a source of well-being and pleasure, smile, joy among others, all of them connected with a positive nature. Globally, health professionals use humor in many situations, both in interaction with patients, with their peers or even on a non-professional daily basis. In parallel they evoke some strategies mobilized for the use of humor, from communicational skills, to the experiences shared with their peers. We can notice that, on the whole, the use of humor in palliative care can bring benefits to patients and their families, to the professionals and even to the team, however these conditions can facilitate or hinder its use. We could even check that study participants have a positive personal attitude about humor, with good rates of appreciation of it, not doing in a general objection to its use, both in personal and professional everyday life. These results directed us to future perspectives, both in terms of the investigation, and in terms of the care practice
