The main purpose of this study is to understand the role that an artistic curriculum may perform in proper form of Civic Education. Its goals are connected with the understanding of the complexity of intrapersonal and interpersonal communication from the exploitation of creative expression activities and of its contribution in proper form of citizenship, human respect and affection. The investigation-action was the method used to investigate these concepts with twenty-two children of a class from Escola EB 2, 3 de António Feijó in Ponte de Lima, in a Project named “Pintar a Cidadania” (Painting Citizenship), in the classes of Civic Formation, Project Area and Visual and Technological Education (EVT). The Project counted on the support of a teacher EVT expert, with artistic experience in the Painting area. Painting Citizenship involved the revision on multicultural literature and privileged the analysis of the learning of how to become a citizen, the reflection of affectivity concepts, self-knowledge and relation with the other. The obtained data from the children’s comments, from their parents’ and from the teachers’ of every subjects and areas allowed, together with the children’s’ artistic answers, to evince a strong motivation towards the theme in study. It was also proved the need of continuing to delve deeply into future projects about values, attitudes and Human Rights, based on the analysis of five European artists’ masterpieces, seeing that the class accepted to collaborate in an International Project named “Images and Identity”, which is occurring at Escola Superior de Educação de Viana do Castelo in cooperation with five other European Institutions of Higher Education. The methodology which was adopted was considerate the most appropriate, because it allowed a strong interaction adult/ child, which promoted a permanent re-meaning of the teacher/ children relationship based on an affective bond of friendship and respect, which was obvious on the pictures created by the children as an outcome of such detonator/ stimulating function of the spontaneous sprout of the childhood interior images. The final result of this project was presented at an exhibition of twenty-two painter’s canvas at Escola Superior de Educação de Viana do Castelo, in February 2010.
