Abstract: Este relatório decorre da unidade Curricular de Prática de Ensino Supervisionada II(PES II) do Mestrado em Educação Pré-Escolar da Escola Superior de Educação de Viana do Castelo. A primeira parte abrange a caracterização do meio, do jardim-de-infância (JI) onde decorreu a PES II, e do grupo de crianças nele incluído.
This report results from the curricular unit of Supervised Teaching Practice II (STP) of the Masters Degree in Pre-primary Education from the Higher School of Education of Viana do Castelo. This practice was carried out in a kindergarten of Viana do Castelo council. This report is divided into three parts. The first part comprises the characterization of the place, the kindergarten (KG), where the STP II took place, and of the group of children included in it. The second part reports a study conducted with those children in that context. The third and last part includes a final comment on the Supervised Teaching Practice I and II. The aforementioned study aimed to promote the taste and understanding in the area of sciences although focused on a more specific issue - the water. After the data collection - in the initial phase, in the course of it, and in the final phase of the process - a thorough data analysis was carried out, by comparing them and observing to what extent the activities contributed to the evolution of children’s knowledge/learning of this issue. The study raised around the following research question: May the exploration of science activities related to water influence the way children learn the scientific terms used and may they contribute to a more scientifically accurate language? So as to answer to the question some objectives were outlined. This study was based on a qualitative methodology, focused on the drawing of a case study. The study included 25 children with ages ranging between 3 and 6 years old. The study outcomes prove that the children became aware of the existence of two types of water (drinkable and undrinkable water), which promotes safety habits in children. They came to understand the different physical states of water and the water changes of state. The children revealed differentiated learning of the scientific terms, and it was observed that most of them learned the terms solid and liquid more than gas.
