This report is part of the work done during the Supervised Practice Teaching II in the context of 2nd cycle of basic education in the following subject areas of knowledge: Portuguese, Mathematics, History and Geography of Portugal and Natural Sciences. During the intervention was conducted a study in 5th grade, corresponding to the second part of this report, in the field of teaching and learning mathematics, which aimed to understand how far the resolution and presentation of mathematical challenges could develop commitment, creativity and enjoyment of students in mathematics, through a Mathematical Congress. To guide the study were defined the following questions: 1) How is characterized the students' performance in solving of the proposed tasks?; 2) What strategies were privileged in the resolution of the proposed tasks?; 3) How did the students respond to the realization of a Mathematical Congress?; 4) What dimensions of creativity were possible to identify in the students involved in the Mathematical Congress?. To realize the study we opted for a qualitative and exploratory research methodology and we collected of data through observation, interviews, a questionnaire, audio/video, administrative documents and students' productions recordings, where researcher has the central role on collecting data, with extended participant observations. After analyzing the collected data it was verified that students when faced with challenging tasks, were very committed and persistent in solving each challenge to acquire a leading position in Mathematical Congress, with the presentation of its own resolutions. Despite this, were perceptible some difficulties in problem solving process, where students mobilize and implement various strategies to solve problems. Still, the students contacted with various strategies of problem solving, mainly the construction of tables or diagrams, making a simulation, solving a simpler problem, finding a pattern and working backwards. The resolution of the proposed challenges led the students, beyond to familiarizing themselves with a typology of tasks, apparently slightly worked until then, working in dyads, well as developing the team, critical and competitive spirit. The used tasks also promoted characteristics of creative thinking of some students, particularly the dimension of originality, either in its resolution, or the presentation during the Congress, emerging in them the taste for discovery and even in mathematics.
