In the framework of the 2nd Supervised Teaching (PES II) Practical Curricular Unit (UC), part of the Master on Preschool Education, we developed a research project with twenty-three children, aged between three and four years old, in the Meadela Kindergarten (JI), which belongs to the Abelheira Group of Schools. The main purpose was to answer the following question: “How does the motivation of children influence the teaching/learning process?" The following objectives were defined: (i) promoting parental involvement in educational projects; (ii) motivating children to recreational activities; (iii) promoting plastic arts by relying on different techniques (sponge, cloth); and (iv) promoting musical expression through artistic activities integrating the different types of expressive activities (plastic, drama and music). According to the Curriculum Guidelines for Pre-School Education (OCEPE) "The intent of the educational process characterizes the professional educator’s intervention, which goes through different intertwined stages that are consecutive and deepening", being that much of the motivation of children is due to their inclusion in the activities to develop, and to sharing their knowledge with their family. This study was developed following a project-based methodology, always taking as reference the aforementioned issue, and focusing on the content area related to the field of dramatic expression. Through data analysis we found that, throughout the project, children remained motivated, committed and interested in achieving the proposed goals, thereby overcoming the gaps initially detected, especially those related to concentration deficit and lack of interest. Attending to the project outcomes, we can say that the involvement of preschool children in recreational activities, as in the case of dramatic expression, had a positive impact on them, strengthening social ties and respect for others, while also improving sharing and the sense of group.
