This research intends to answer the platform guidelines of the House of Arts of Fafe, projecting a costume design for the fifth Clowns of the World meeting that will be held in Fafe in 2017. This study aims to legitimize the role of costume design class for the theater as a cultural mediator of a regions creativity, creating connections between theater and textile sector. The Project is based on the development and materialization of a product in the theater-costume area, in order to integrate the textile industry in connection with the cultural and artistic creations of the House of Arts platform. This research presents and explores regional and traditional habits in the artistic world, specifically of theater. As a reference, the study presents both the literary character of “Dom Bibas” of the novel “O Bobo” by Alexandre Herculano and the World of Clowns, based on the behavior of today’s society in the staging world. The thesis is divided into four essential parts for an effective and productive analysis. The first part demonstrates the potential value of costume design as a carrier of culture so that creativity is a mediator of connections between design, costumes and culture. In the second part there are study cases of the connections between the costumes and the textile sector, highlighting the importance of Sonia Delaunay in the creation of patterns and color pallets applied to the fashion field. In this stage there were equally analysed possible existing connections between Portugal’s theater and textile industry, focused on the north region, concretely, Cávado and Ave region. In the third part, the House of Arts is analyzed, namely the sewing workshop as cultural pattern (ALEXANDER, 1977), indicating the actors of this system of institutions, namely the participants in the sewing workshop and the entities of the textile industry of the Cávado and Ave region that relate to it. At last, the fourth part refers to the design phase and to the final materialization of the costume “Dona Bibas”. The presente research intends to witness the importance of linking textile industry micro-enterprises with the theater, in order to generate knowledge, experimentation and innovation in two diferente áreas, promoting sustainability.
