This report was carried out within the curricular unit of Supervised Teaching Practice (PES) of the Master’s Degree in Pre-School Education and Teaching of the 1st cycle of Basic Education. The research project was carried out in a school in the district of Viana do Castelo, in which 22 students from the 4th year of schooling participated. It was intended to understand to what extent the interactive games can aid in the teaching and learning process of these students and how they develop their ability to work with fractions. To guide the study, the following questions were defined: 1) How does the use of interactive games contribute to the students’ predisposition to learning fractions?; 2) What are the rules used by students in performing the various operations with fractions?; 3) Why is the introduction of interactive games in the learning of fractions beneficial to students? According to the problem and the research questions, a qualitative methodology was chosen and followed the action-research method. To collect data were used interactive games, participant observation, questionnaires and audio and video recordings. Analyzing the results of this study, we can say that the interactive games were beneficial to the understanding the problems/exercises, for the identification and application of mathematical knowledge and for the use of various problem-solving strategies. In addition, they provided challenging moments which helped to increase student’s motivation, cooperation and involvement. The interactive games explored allowed students to a better learning of the content of the fractions, with which they developed their mathematical reasoning abilities, mathematical communication and problem solving, which may increase student’s motivation and enthusiasm for mathematics. The experience in PES allowed me to contact new educational contexts, which helped me to develop various skills necessary for my future career in education.
