The Municipality of Barcelos has been a reference in the production of ceramic objects, dating back to ancient times. Throughout many centuries, in this particular region, have been manufacturing: utilitarian and ornamental pottery, figurative ceramics, plumbing and even house structures, such as tiles and bricks, made with stoneware. Being aware of the importance of preserving and disclosing this identifying patrimony of this region, Barcelos disposes of a museum, entirely dedicated to this issue – the Pottery Museum –, which, through the cultural and educative activities that it offers, provides to the community its services and holds an important role in terms of the education of various groups of people. Barcelos is an Educative City, and, in 2017, added the statute of Unesco’s Creative City in the Craft and Folk Art Tier. The Assignment here presented, was draw up in the context of the Master’s of Artistic Education Thesis in the Superior Education School of the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo. The undertaken study presents an stablished reflection between the student public of Visual Arts, in a secondary level, in a School of Barcelos, through a spectrum of guide-visits and educative actions developed in the Pottery Museum. Simultaneously, presents a reflection with the student public in a superior level, through several actions with the students of the Elementary Education degree, of the Superior Education School of the Polytechnic of Viana do Castelo. The present study was based on the statistics pointing to the low representation, in general, by the public of the secondary and superior levels in the board of visits taken by school groups to the Pottery Museum, mainly by the degree of Visual Arts Students. This analysis is relevant, in the sense that, although this are groups connected to the Arts there is no connection between them and the Local Art typical of the Cultural Identity of their Community, as well as it is important to study this issue with the superior group of students, regarding the fact that those will be the next generation of generalist professors. The adopted methodology was the investigation-action. Process that allowed the identification of new strategies that implemented as necessary measures would allow the perpetuation of the knowledge about the Museum, its heritage and the educative activities involved in artistic pursuits there developed, along with the student groups involved in this investigation. The data collection proceeded through the observation over the conducted cycles, as well as the reflection taken by the actors in this investigation. It was also deployed statistical surveys, photography and informal interviews. The results obtained with this investigation-action, allowed us to confirm how fundamental the application of this strategies are to raise awareness of the Museum and its actions to this public, as well as to make possible through this approach the sensitization towards the valorization of a little Popular Art evidenced in the formation of school context of these students.
