A leitura e a construção de gráficos : estudo com uma turma do 5º ano de escolaridade

Abstract

Este relatório retrata o trabalho desenvolvido durante a Prática de Ensino Supervisionada II (PES II), em contexto de 2º ciclo, onde foram lecionadas quatro áreas: Ciências da Natureza, História e Geografia de Portugal, Português e Matemática. É também apresentada no final uma reflexão global sobre a PES. No período de regência foi realizado um estudo de intervenção na área da Matemática. Este trabalho de investigação desenvolveu-se com uma turma do 5º ano com o principal objetivo de compreender o desempenho e a relação dos alunos com o tema Organização e Tratamento de Dados (OTD), em particular ao nível da construção e da leitura de gráficos, identificando as suas principais dificuldades e procurando possíveis relações entre essas mesmas dificuldades e a comunicação matemática. Com vista a estruturar e delinear este estudo, foram formuladas três questões orientadoras: (a) Como se pode caracterizar o desempenho dos alunos em tarefas que requerem construção e leitura de gráficos? (b) Que dificuldades demonstram os alunos, quer na construção, quer na leitura e interpretação de gráficos? (c) Qual a influência da comunicação matemática no desempenho e na resolução das tarefas propostas? Optou-se por uma metodologia de investigação qualitativa, baseada em dois estudos de caso. A recolha de dados foi efetuada através de observações, gravações áudio, documentos escritos e entrevistas. Da análise dos dados, pode-se concluir que, de uma forma geral, os alunos caso realizaram as tarefas propostas revelando empenho durante o estudo do tema. Pode afirmar-se que estes alunos revelaram um bom desempenho sobretudo nas tarefas de construção de gráficos. Nas tarefas de leitura e interpretação de gráficos os alunos revelaram algumas dificuldades, sobretudo quando as tinham de realizar por escrito. Esta debilidade na capacidade de interpretação está intimamente ligada à comunicação matemática, em especial no reduzido vocabulário matemático que possuíam.

This report depicts the work developed during the Teaching Practice II, in a 5th and 6th level context, in which were taught four subjects: Science; History and geography of Portugal, Portuguese and Maths. It´s also presented a global reflexion about the teaching Practice at the end. Through the teaching period it was accomplished an intervention study about Maths. This searching work was developed with a 5th level class and the main goal was to understand the performance and the relation of the students towards the theme of Organization and Data Treatment, particularly in what concerns to graphics constructing and reading, identifying their main difficulties and searching possible relations between those difficulties and the mathematical communication To structure and organize this study three principal questions had been articulated: (a) How to characterize the students’ performance in tasks that require graphics construction and reading? (b) Which difficulties do the students show either in construction or reading graphics? (c) How does mathematical communication influence the performance of the proposed tasks resolution? The methodology chosen is qualitative, based in two case studies. The data collecting was done by observations, recordings, writing documents and interviews. The data analysis allows concluding that in general the students-case accomplished the proposed tasks revealing a good performance especially in the graphics construction tasks. In the graphics reading and interpretation the students revealed some difficulties mainly when they had to write them. This weakness of the capacity to interpret is intimately related to the mathematical communication, especially due to their restricted vocabulary.
