Da avaliação à ação: proposta de melhoria do espaço exterior de um JI

Abstract

O presente relatório foi elaborado no âmbito da Prática de Ensino Supervisionada, do Mestrado em Educação Pré-Escolar e Ensino do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico na Escola Superior de Educação do Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo. O relatório está dividido em 3 partes. A parte I consiste na caraterização do contexto de pré-escolar e do contexto do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico, a parte II é constituída pelo trabalho de investigação e a parte III é constituída pela reflexão final. O trabalho investigativo do relatório final teve como principais objetivos: 1) avaliar o espaço exterior de um jardim de infância 2) enriquecer o espaço exterior com uma variedade de materiais tendo em conta as necessidades identificadas e através de um processo participativo das crianças 3) analisar o envolvimento das crianças nas atividades propostas. Participaram neste estudo 21 crianças do ensino préescolar. As suas idades estão compreendidas entre os 3 e os 5 anos. Os instrumentos de recolha de dados utilizados foram uma grelha de observação do ambiente em educação de infância (Harms et al., 2008), assim como entrevistas semiestruturadas e individuais às crianças da sala do ensino pré-escolar e, finalmente, os registos de desenho relativos à perceção das crianças do que gostavam de brincar lá fora. A análise de dados decorreu das observações realizadas através da grelha de observação e a análise das entrevistas realizadas às crianças tal como os registos de desenho elaborados. Os resultados mostraram que o espaço exterior do jardim de infância onde decorreu esta investigação melhorou consideravelmente. As crianças passaram a ter oportunidade de se envolverem com o espaço exterior utilizando materiais disponíveis previamente. A categoria na qual mais se notou a melhoria foi na subescala Atividades (item 23), Areia/água. É de referir que este item, depois da implementação das atividades, obteve a cotação de 5, a mais alta. Em suma, este estudo conclui que, alguns pontos foram melhorados e ultrapassados, mas ainda existem algumas lacunas que continuam, como por exemplo, um espaço calmo e relaxante e ainda equipamentos que permitissem o desenvolvimento da motricidade grossa como os troncos.

This report was developed within the framework of the Supervised Teaching Practice, a part of the Master’s Degree in Pre-school and Primary School Education in the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo. The report is divided into three sections. Part I relies on the characterization of both the preschool and the 1st cycle of primary education contexts; part II contains the research work; and part III is made of the closing thought. The main goals of the investigative work from this final report were the following: 1) to evaluate the outdoor space of a kindergarten 2) to improve the outdoor space with a variety of material while taking into consideration the identified needs and going through a participatory process involving the children; and lastly 3) to analyse the children’s involvement on the proposed activities. 21 preschool children participated in this study, from ages 3 to 5. The data collection instruments used were a grid of observation from the environment in preschool education (Harms et al., 2008), as well as semistructured and individual interviews to the children from that preschool’s class and last, the drawing records that show the children’s perception of what they enjoyed the most when playing outside. The data analysis resulted from the observations made upon the observation grid, the analysis of the interviews conducted to the children in addition to the drawing records. The results showed the kindergarten’s outdoor space in which this research took place had substantial improvements. Children started to have the opportunity to engage with the outdoor space by using the materials previously set in place. The category with the most noticeable improvement was the one from the sub-scale Activities (item 23), Sand/water. It should be noted that this item, following the implementation of the activities, obtained a 5 rate, which is the highest in the scale. In short, this study leads to the conclusion that, even though some points have been improved and overcome, some gaps still remain, such as the development of a calmer and more relaxing space or even the presence of equipments - such as trunks - that would allow an increase of motor skills.
