This dissertation analyzes the influence of social media on the intention to purchase books by Generations Y and Z, with a special focus on the emergence of digital communities dedicated exclusively to the book industry, such as BookTok, Bookstagram and BookTube. In a context where consumer habits and the publishing market are increasingly shaped by the digital environment, the aim is to understand how these platforms influence the reading behaviors and purchasing decisions of these generations. Traditionally associated with more conventional practices, the book industry currently faces both the challenge and the opportunity of adapting to a new paradigm, marked by the rise of online literary communities and the actions of digital influencers (book influencers), who are transforming the processes of discovering, recommending and promoting books. To understand this phenomenon, a mixed methodology was used. The quantitative aspect, conducted through the application of a questionnaire survey, allowed to identify patterns of influence of social networks on purchase intent, with 360 valid responses obtained. The qualitative component, based on six semi-structured interviews with book influencers, provided an in-depth analysis of influence strategies, community dynamics, and the book industry's adaptations to this new digital paradigm. The results show that social media has a direct and growing impact on the reading and purchasing decisions of Generations Y and Z, mainly through the trust placed in content creators and the discovery of new authors and literary genres. Digital communities position themselves as drivers of motivation, sharing and renewal of reading habits, reinforcing the role of social media in building value and influence in the book industry. |
