Facing the increase of life expectancy and the reduction of mortality and birth, we are watching an increase in longevity and the aging of the population, seting multiple challenges to individuals and society (Paúl & Ribeiro, 2012). In this context have emerged in recent years and the world, a number of social and health policies in the domain of active aging in order to address the problems identified in the structure and functioning of society. Active aging has occupied one of the top positions in global agendas, in particular, World Health Organization (WHO, 2005) which puts forward the definition of Active Ageing, as "the process of optimizing opportunities for health, participation and security, with the aim of improving the quality of life as people get older" (WHO, 2005, p.13). Active aging is not limited to health promotion, it also relates to environmental and personal factors associated with well-being. The society, the community and the family also exert a huge impact on how people age (Cabral & Ferreira, 2014), demonstrating the importance of relationships and social support (Antonucci, Lansford e Akiyama, 2001). The main argument in favor of active aging highlights the need to ensure the social inclusion of people as they age and to ensure their presence in the collective life, as well as activities that promote cohesion and social interaction. In this sense, the present study was developed in order to (1) caracterize the participants of the Garden of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (in Portuguese called Jadim PAM) in demographic aspects and experiences relating to this participation; (2) assess the social networks and satisfaction with social support of participants in the Garden PAM; and (3) analyze the existence of differences in the variables (social networks and satisfaction with social support) as a function of socio-demographic characteristics. For this research we chose a process of selection of non-probabilistic nature, consolidating the sample participants in the second edition of Garden PAM & Wellness (N = 27). 81.5 % are women, aged 54 and 89 years (M = 70.67; SD = 8.88), with low education, predominantly up to four years (59.3 %) and mostly married (48.1 %). Participants were assessed with the Research Protocol Garden PAM & Wellness (Bastos, Faria, Moreira & Melo de Carvalho, 2013) which included, in addition to other measures, the Social Support Satisfaction Scale (Pais-Ribeiro, 1999) and the The Lubben Social Network Scale – 6 (Lubben, 1988; Portuguese version of Ribeiro, Teixeira, Duarte, Azevedo, Araújo, Barbosa & Paúl, 2012). The results reveal a lack of statistically significant differences in social support (p <0.05) according to gender, age and education group. Regarding the social network, 89.9 % of the participants were at risk of social isolation.
