Abstract: Introdução: A atitude perante a atividade física (AF) durante a gravidez tem vindo a sofrer alterações nos últimos 50 anos.
Background: Attitude towards physical activity (PA) during pregnancy has been changing in the last 50 years. While in the past women were advised to reduce or pause PA, scientific evidence now supports their importance in pregnant women's health (ACSM, 2014). The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG, 2015) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM, 2014) recommend at least 30 minutes of moderate PA, on most days of the week, unless contraindications are present. Howeve, in Portugal there are no recommendations regarding the type, intensity and duration of PA during pregnancy. Objective: To analyze factors associated with the PA pattern during pregnancy Methods: Descriptive-correlational study, with a rational sample (n = 122). The data collection instrument was a questionnaire and includes sociodemographic characterization, clinical history and PA habits and the Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire (PPAQ), validated by Mesquita (2015). The ethical principles inherent to observational research have been respected. Results: The mean age of pregnant women is 31,77±5,48 years. Gestational age ranges from 26 to 39 weeks. During pregnancy, 29,5% had clinical or obstetric complications. Less than half practiced regularly PA (45.1%). Sixty (49,2%) pregnant women received information about the practice of PA by their health professional. Regarding PA level, the weekly energy spent varies between 7,28 and 199,55 MET-h/wk-1 (DP=30,53). The majority of energy was spent on sedentary PA (Md = 19.15) or light PA (Md = 6.88). The type of PA where the highest energy expenditure is verified is in domestic (Md = 14.74) and sports (Md = 6.59). The intensity of PA during the pregnancy shows a significant correlation between age and vigorous PA (rs-0.232; sig=0.010) and the statistically significant measures between nationality and vigorous PA (Z2,002; sig=0,045); the civil status and the Vigorous PA (KW7,914, gl2, sig=0.019), schooling and sedentary PA (KW9,906, gl2, sig=0.007), shift work and Light PA (Z-1,991, sig=0,046), the Moderate PA (Z2,863; sig=0.004) and Total PA (Z-2,743; sig=0.006); high competition sports at moderate PA (Z 1,996; (Z2,785; sig=0.005), a Vigorous PA (Z2.785; sig=0.005) and a Total PA (Z2.712; sig=0.007). The type of PA during the pregnancy is observed the statistically significant measures between civil status and Sports PA (KW6,271; gl2; sig=0.043), an occupation and Occupational PA (KW10,172; gl2; sig=0.006); the number of participants in the course of PNP and Sports PA (Z2, 236; sig=0.025), as applied in PA and Occupational PA (Z1.986; sig=0.047), as contraindications for PA and Occupational PA (Z2,478; sig=0.013) , a practice of regular PA and Sporty PA (Z3,209; sig=0.001), a view of PA profissional and Sporty PA (Z2,643; sig=0.008) and coexist with the incentive to practice regular PA and Sport PA (Z2.278; sig = 0.023). Conclusions: The self-reported pa pattern is predominantly of sedentary and light intensity and domestic type. Compared to international recommendations, low rates of PA practice during pregnancy are observed. There are sociodemographic determinants that influence pregnant women in the practice of PA. The understanding of the information provided by health professionals is quite low. This is an identified area that should be invested.
