The present report was developed in the master’s degree in Pre-School and Primary School Education of the school of Education of the Polytech inc Institute in Viana do Castelo. It integrates a full description and reflection as a result of the practice in some educational contexts that I have atented, such as, Kindergarten and Primary School. The research project was developed in the Primary School. The main focus of this research project was mathematics. It took place at a school in the district of Viana do Castelo and was realized with a group of 14 students who were doing their third grade. This theme was chosen because nowadays many students don’t feel motivated to do mathematics and reveal being uncomfortable about it. There are still many difficulties inherent to this subject. Therefore the main goal of this study is to understand how students may learn maths outside the classroom as a way of motivation and improving their knowledge. To achieve this purpose two questions were formulated: 1) How learning outside the classroom favors the construction and the development of mathematical communication; 2) What attitudes students revealed when they were doing those tasks outside the classroom?. To solve the problem and to answer these questions I decided to carry out this study within the scope of the interpretative paradigm, flowing a qualitative methodology in the form of a ase study, the case was all the class. Date was gathered through observations, task resolutions audiovisual records (video and photography) and inquiries. The date analysis showed an increase in students positive attitudes like motivation, involvement and persistence about maths. Furthermore, it show ed an important improvement in different capacities of the students, such as communication and also identification and correct application of strategies. To conclude, we may refer that promoting outdoor activities will let students improve their capacities: reasoning, creativity, mathematical communication and when they are connected with work in the classroom, they might make the students much more motived and dedicated.
