A área protegida do Parque Natural do Alvão no design de acessórios de moda : a metodologia do design do produto como estratégia para salvar uma espécie local em vias de extinção

Abstract

Esta dissertação averiguou em que medida a metodologia do design do produto, orientada para o âmbito dos acessórios de moda, pode ser uma estratégia para salvar uma espécie local em vias de extinção. O estudo orientou-se para a borboleta diurna, denominada de Borboleta-azul-das-turfeiras (Maculinea alcon), existente no Parque Natural do Alvão, no Norte de Portugal. No âmbito da investigação em design, o desenvolvimento de uma tipologia de mala, apresentou-se como uma solução e uma oportunidade para refletir acerca do impacto de problemáticas atuais na nossa realidade. Nomeadamente, as mudanças climáticas ou a perda da biodiversidade que têm acontecido na reprodução, na continuidade e na sobrevivência das espécies, cogitando o presente e o futuro da vida dos seres humanos, assim como o de outras espécies de seres vivos. O estudo sustentou-se numa metodologia mista, não intervencionista e intervencionista. O desenvolvimento de um produto semi-industrial do âmbito dos acessórios de moda como uma mala, culturalmente conotado com aquela espécie em vias de extinção do Norte do país, revelou-se uma ocasião para criar um sistema de rede territorial. A ligação entre o artesanato e a indústria evidenciou-se na produção de um produto que utiliza recursos e processos artesanais e industriais de uma região. De igual modo, este produto exploratório demonstrou que o conceito de design e sustentabilidade pode ser uma ocasião de projeto para transferir valores identitários como a preservação e a conservação de uma espécie autóctone ameaçada. Este estudo beneficiou da parceria com o Município de Mondim de Basto do distrito de Vila Real, assim como das entidades envolvidas no projeto sendo elas a empresa Bioleather que faz o comércio de peles, a empresa de artes gráficas Colorwise e ainda a empresa H.J. Rocha’s que atua no âmbito da produção industrial de mobiliário. Com esta investigação pretendeu-se comprovar que a disciplina do Design, através da produção de acessórios de moda, pode revelar-se um aliado valioso quando conjugado com outras áreas distintas. Através da aplicação de conceitos transcendentes e atualmente relevantes, como preocupações na ordem da sustentabilidade ambiental, a disciplina pode ser utilizada para o desenvolvimento de soluções para a problemática da mudança climática, perda de biodiversidade local e mundial e ainda outras catástrofes naturais, quando aliada a uma rede territorial preocupada em cumprir tais parâmetros.

This dissertation investigated the extent to which product design methodology, oriented towards the scope of fashion accessories, can be used as a strategy to save local species in danger of extinction. The study focused on the daytime butterfly, also known as the Borboleta-azul-das-turfeiras (Maculinea alcon), which can be found at the Natural Park of Alvão, in the North of Portugal. In the scope of design research, the development of a bag typology presented itself as a solution and an opportunity to reflect on the impact of current issues on our reality. Namely, the climatic changes or the loss of biodiversity that have happened in the reproduction, in the continuity and in the survival of the species, considering the present and the future of the life of human beings, as well as that of other species of living beings. The study was based on a mixed methodology 一 non-interventionist and interventionist. The development of a semi-industrial product within the scope of fashion accessories such as a bag, culturally connected with that endangered species in the North of the country, proved to be a valuable opportunity to create a local network system. The possibility for a bridge between the handicraft industry and the traditional industry is obvious in the production of an item that depends on resources and artisanal and industrial processes from the region. Likewise, this exploratory product demonstrates that the concept of design and sustainability can be allied to local identity values such as the preservation and conservation of an endangered indigenous species. This study benefited from the partnership with the Municipality of Mondim de Basto in the district of Vila Real, as well as from the support of other entities involved in the project, namely the Bioleather company that does fur trade, the graphic arts company Colorwise and the company H.J. Rocha's that operates in the scope of industrial furniture production. With this research it was aimed to prove that the discipline of Design, through the production of fashion accessories, can be a valuable asset when in partnership with other very distinct areas. Through the implementation of transcendent and currently relevant concepts, such as concerns for environmental sustainability, this discipline can be utilized in the development of solutions for the issue of climate change, loss of local and global biodiversity as well as other natural catastrophes, when allied to a territorial network concerned with achieving those parameters.
